Air purifiers: tests from several countries

Air purifiers filter fine dust, pollen and smoke from indoor air. Many models are sold worldwide, but under a different model number in each country – and rated by very different testers. Coverage is densest in Germany, the UK and the US; only a few verdicts come from France. We merge what exists and show the source, country and original verdict for every test.

  • Very quiet: around 37 dB measured in night mode (testit.de); 10 out of 10 for everyday noise (Le Café du Geek)
  • Auto mode reacts to worsening air faster than any other unit tested there (TechRadar)
  • An excellent purifier for the bedroom (Journal du Geek)
  • The manufacturer’s 100 m² claim is considered flattering; 20 to 25 m² is more realistic (testit.de)
  • Expensive for a purifier-only device, no carry handle and bigger than the name “Compact” suggests (TechRadar, Tom’s Guide)
  • Not a solution for a large open-plan living room (Journal du Geek)
  • The carbon filter wears out faster than the particle filter (Le Café du Geek)

Frequently asked questions

Where do the scores come from?

From published tests by consumer organisations, labs and specialist publications. Every product lists each source with its country, issue and original verdict, with a link where possible. We run no tests of our own.

Why do some sources say “zitiert nach” (cited from)?

Some organisations, such as Stiftung Warentest, publish their detailed results only behind a paywall. In those cases we take the overall verdict from a freely accessible report that states the grade and issue, and we name that report.

Was exactly this model tested?

Manufacturers often sell the same appliance under different model numbers or with different accessories in each country. We group variants of one model line and name the tested variant next to the test when the source states it.

Why do the verdicts differ?

Test programmes differ: labs measure things like dust pickup or durability in endurance runs, while editorial reviews weigh everyday impressions more heavily. We do not smooth over such differences; the spread chart shows them.
